BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Vijayawada is one of the peripheral Institutes of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences functioning under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, New Delhi. This Institute was established as Regional Research Centre (Ayurveda) on 01-05-1972 by the amalgamation of the Mobile Clinical Research Unit of Razole and the Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit functioning at Hyderabad. This institute is currently running an NABH accredited Hospital Section with OPD, IPD, X-ray unit, and Panchakarma units. The Clinical Laboratory of the institute is NABL-certified. The mandate for RARI is Clinical research on Skin diseases and Vector borne diseases.
Institute Achievements
This Institute situated in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh is a primary research centre under CCRAS. This Institute was upgraded as National Ayurveda Research Institute for Vector Borne Diseases in 2009 and again renamed as Regional Ayurveda Research Institute for Skin Disorders, Vijayawada in 2016. Later in 2020, this institute was re-named as Regional Ayurveda Research Institute.  RARI executes various Clinical research projects, Ethno-Medical- Botanical Surveys, Fundamental research and Outreach Programmers  encompassing Ayurveda Mobile Health Care Programme (AMHCP) under SCSP and Tribal Health Care Research Project (THCRP). The institute has contributed through research publications in national and international journals and presented research papers in national and International seminars. The mandate of RARI Vijayawada is research in Skin Disorders and hence primarily focus on research associated with Integumentary system disorders like Kitibha (Psoriasis), Vicharchika(Eczema), Darunaka(Dandruff),Padadari etc. However, Clinical research projects on various other diseases like Filariasis, Tamaka Swasa(Bronchial asthma), Panduroga(Anemia) etc have also been carried out in the Institute. The Institute is currently working on collaborative study under the CCRAS SMART project & EMRS also.
Further, RARI conducts workshops, seminars, Mega Medical camps and Arogya Melas for propagation of Ayurveda. Institute is also associated with Laila Impex (manufactures and exporters of plant extracts) and Imis Pharmaceuticals, Vijayawada for the formulation development and preparation of coded formulations for CCRAS clinical studies. This institute is providing clinical training to Ayurveda internees of and guiding PG scholars of Dr. NRS Government Ayurveda College, Vijayawada. The Institute regularly organizes activities as per CCRAS instructions such as International Yoga Day, Ayurveda Day, Rashtriya Poshan Maah,Vigilence week, Hindi Pakhawada ,Swacchata Pakhavada – Swachhta hi Sewa and generates Public awareness through lectures, IEC displays and distribution of medicinal plants.
            The Institute hospital section has NABH accreditation where Inpatient and Outpatient services are offered. The current IPD bed strength is 25 with Panchakarma treatment services. The Institute observes implementation of Hindi Official Language activities and is receiving appreciation for its contribution.
